Silly Axe Cafe

Personal chef Angela Pike looks to create a safe haven for those with extreme food allergies with Silly Axe Cafe, Louisville’s first fully gluten-, nut- and lactose-free restaurant. Diagnosed with celiac disease, Pike seeks to create a community for people with extreme food allergies to dine and meet, and plans to create a group for children with extreme allergies to meet regularly. Programming includes cooking classes, parties for children and adults and four-course pop-up plated meals. The menu will include sandwiches, quesadillas, soups and salads and a grab-and-go meal option. Annie May’s Sweet Cafe will supply gluten-free bread and baked goods. Facebook @thesillyaxe

Grow Up with a Tower Garden

Don’t have space for a garden? Want to enjoy fresh, locally grown lettuce in January? Vertical aeroponics company Tower Garden enables healthy fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers to grow indoors or outdoors. Compared to traditional growing methods, research shows that aeroponic technologies allow food to grow three times faster, at a 30% higher yield, all while using 98% less water. Tower Garden aeroponic systems use water, liquid nutrients and a soilless growing medium to quickly and efficiently grow more colorful, tastier, better smelling and more nutritious produce.
