Did you know that one shot (1 oz.) of whiskey contains almost 30,000 1-microliter droplets?

Stuart Williams, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, at UofL, has been analyzing the microstructures that remain after a single microdrop of diluted bourbon has been evaporated. The resulting whiskey web patterns create a unique “fingerprint” of each sample.

Supporting This Research | You can purchase these images either as high quality prints on aluminum or as coasters. All profits will go towards supporting research in Williams’ lab, including:

• Training an undergraduate student in microfluidics, including the creation of whiskey webs.

• The creation of prints, expanding the whiskey web (digital and physical) gallery.

• Developing a platform for counterfeit detection.
