“ Let every breath, every word, and every step make the mother earth proud of us.” — Amit Ray

April 22, 2022, marks the 52nd annual Earth Day, when people around the world march and rally and participate in projects to clean up the environment. What started as a reaction to a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara and a bipartisan effort to engage college students has grown into a global movement for us all to work together to save our planet every day. But how?

There are multiple ways to get involved, nationally and locally. Here are a few:

  • Kentucky Green and Healthy Schools is dedicated to empowering students to create healthier, safer and more environmentally sustainable schools and communities. www.GreenSchools.ky.gov
  • Appalachia—Science in the Public Interest offers educational programs, training courses, research and projects focused around ecosystems, energy systems, food systems and cultural systems. www.Appalachia-spi.org
  • 100% Renewable Energy Alliance of Louisville is a nonprofit supporting the City’s mission of 100% clean renewable energy for Metro operations by 2035 and communitywide efforts by 2040. www.RenewableEnergyLouisville.org
  • 100 Percent Louisville supports the City’s resolution to convertto convert to 100% clean renewable energy communitywide by 2040. www.100PercentLou.com
  • Louisville Climate Action Network is a network of organizations and individuals committed to fighting global climate change through energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart public policy. www.LouisvilleCan.org
  • Louisville Sustainability Council offers educational programs, resources and events to inspire creative problem solving, improve public education and provide equitable, accessible resources. www.LouisvilleSustainabilityCouncil.org
