Since 1792, Locust Grove has been a place for Louisville’s stories. Open for tours from February through December, Locust Grove is the perfect spot to explore the early nineteenth century through the daily lives of the Croghan and Clark families who lived here and the enslaved families who worked here. We tell these stories through meals prepared in the hearth kitchen, through games on our lawn, through the squash and tomatoes grown in our gardens, and through the colorful textiles in the historic house. Begin your journey to Kentucky’s past with events throughout the year, from the Gardeners’ Fair in May which connects 19th century farming to 21st century gardens, to the sights and sounds of the 18th Century Market Fair in October, with everything from authentically made breads to traditional entertainments. Special events may also feature demonstrations in our farm distillery and hearth kitchen. Explore where Louisville begins and discover your place in the story.

Historic Locust Grove is a 55-acre 18th century historic site located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane. For more information, visit locustgrove.org

Located in downtown’s 21c Museum Hotel, Proof on Main’s menu is a showcase for the bounty of the Ohio River Valley, featuring Executive Chef Mike Wajda’s soulful, ingredient driven food. Fresh, local and seasonal ingredients inspire the ever evolving menu. What cannot be used immediately is pickled or preserved and saved. In addition to partnerships with regional farmers and producers, Proof on Main’s unique relationship with Woodland Farm allows diners to eat locally raised heritage meats and to sample the season’s best produce. Woodland Farm, located 24 miles east of the restaurant, is owned by 21c founders Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson. Preserving the farmland of Kentucky and bringing heritage foods back to the table are among the couple’s greatest passions. Brown and Wilson collaborate with Wajda to provide the restaurant with sustainably grown heirloom fruits and vegetables, heritage breed chickens, and Hereford and Mulefoot hogs. The farm is also home to the couple’s sustainable bison operation, Kentucky Bison Company, which supplies Proof on Main and other restaurants around Louisville with hormone-free, grass-fed bison. To complement the culinary creativity, Proof on Main’s signature cocktail list includes original recipes inspired by the season (and sometimes Current Exhibitions), using fresh juices, inventive infusions and house made tonics. Proof on Main’s spirit collection emphasizes small batch, artisanal craftsmanship from around the world and includes an impressive selection of more than 120 of Kentucky’s finest Bourbons, some bottled exclusively for Proof on Main as part of the 21c Selects private spirits program.

Greetings from Kentucky Kombucha! Too often, people think of kombucha as a warm season beverage. We get it. But as we enter the season of indulgence, our guts often struggle to cope with the barrage of fatty food and imbibing of the season. Kombucha can help!

The probiotics, antioxidants, organic acids and enzymes found in authentic, artisanal Kentucky Kombucha are known to increase the feeling of satiety. When these nutrients assimilate into the gut, a message is transmitted to the brain via the gut-brain axis to stop or minimize further consumption. Our personal experience, anecdotes from our customers and research from the kombucha community around the globe support the finding.

If this isn’t enough to warrant inclusion of kombucha into your seasonal merriment, how about as a hang-over cure! Well, too much alcohol is too much alcohol plain and simple and time remains the only real cure. What is true is this: Kombucha helps replace the beneficial microbes in our bodies that alcohol kills. Further, kombucha has a natural detoxifying effect that will help purge the body toward recovery.

So, as you strive to maintain balance this time of year, consider Kentucky Kombucha as a compliment to the good cheer.

At the Italian Table is a unique dining experience offering authentic Italian regional cuisine and wines, shared at two communal tables in a warm, convivial atmosphere, surrounded by lovely antiques and décor brought from Italy. The cuisine focuses on the simplicity and seasonality of the Italian table, using fresh, local ingredients as well as specialty items brought from Italy. It is a reflection of Chef Gina Stipo’s 13 years in Tuscany, where she owned a cooking school and culinary tour company, Ecco La Cucina.

When Gina relocated back to the US in 2013, she was drawn to Louisville because of its strong community spirit, beautiful neighborhoods, and locally owned businesses, farms and restaurants. An expert in Italian food and wine, Gina brings the Italian osteria style of dining to Louisville – simple food prepared well, fresh pastas, excellent wines, all reasonably priced and joyfully shared with others in a convivial, familial setting!

Local vendors are our neighbors. They’re the folks who jump in to bring the party, who have a cool recipe, loaf of bread or a story to share — usually all of the above.

Like our vendors, Lucky’s comes from a long line of community minded pioneers who love food. We’re passionate about bringing the best quality products we can find to our local communities. Think of us as the country roadside stand of fresh tomatoes or the chef ’s table in a kitchen dishing up delicious fare. Our doors are wide open to welcome everyone who’s interested in being a part of the big picture.

We’re changing perceptions and creating inclusion, and that begins with you. Because together, we’re going to make this thing really big. We’ll also make life a little more delicious in the process. So whether your hens are ready to create your nest egg, or your pork can help you to bring in the bacon, we’re here. And we want to help provide each community with the best things the area has to offer.

John Hale and Vicki Hale opened Lotsa Pasta on March 4, 1982, in a tiny storefront on Bardstown Road. Their original intent was to provide fresh homemade pasta to a city that had none. The crew of two built a loyal following from the first day they opened the door and many of those customers are still coming in. Within a decade, success made it necessary to move into a larger, more comfortable space and St. Matthews became our present location.

While the original Italian and Mexican delicacies and products are still the centerpiece; the scope of countries represented has grown considerably. The sociable Saturday morning line of locals talking UL or UK basketball was joined by the accents of their Spanish, Asian, and European clients early on. The world had come to Louisville and naturally found its way to Lotsa Pasta.

A bakery was added, and we started producing the classic Italian breads and gave us both bread to sell and a great base for our unbeatable sandwiches. As with everything we do, we pride ourselves on baking the very best bread and have developed quite the variety.

The majority of our staff has been with us for years. We have watched your kids grow up; know your neighbors, relatives, and most of your food preferences. All of us are foodies and we love to discuss the newest trends and help with ingredients and recipes.

So, for those of you, who are not yet familiar with our shop, please enjoy using our website to learn about Lotsa Pasta. For those of you who have been with us for years, we offer our continuing appreciation and we wish all of you “Buon Appetito!”

Chef Bruce Ucán and Anne Shadle of the Mayan Café opened their newest venture, Mayan Street Food, in August of 2017. A food truck serving street food originating from Chef Ucán’s native Yucatan peninsula, the truck is the exclusive food partner of Gravely Brewing Co.

Owners Nathaniel Gravely & Cory Buenning sought out Mayan Café as their food partner for its strong reputation of quality food and local sourcing as well as Ucán’s start as a food truck in 1996, arguably the first food truck in Louisville. Buenning and Gravely are brothers-in-law and Shadle and Ucán are brother and sisters-in-law, so they all share the value of building solid family businesses. JD Country Milk is a family-owned and operated milk processing plant located on a farm in Logan County, KY. Willis and Edna Schrock, their 8 children and 30 cows moved to Kentucky in 1998. In 2006, they saw the need for all natural, healthy dairy products.

Their milk is low temperature pasteurized, not homogenized. Homogenization breaks the fat into tiny, sharp crystals that can enter the bloodstream. If the fat globules are left whole, they will pass through the stomach. You will find the cream on top of the milk. JD Country Milk is heated to 145° for 30 minutes. Milk loses nutrients and enzymes if it is pasteurized at higher temperatures, making it harder to digest. Many customers with lactose-intolerance do not experience any discomfort with JD Country Milk products.

Options include Whole, 2%, Skim, Chocolate, Buttermilk, Cream, Half & Half, Eggnog, Drinkable Yogurt, Cheese Curds and Butter. All milks are sold in glass returnable jars. Products are available at Whole Foods, ValuMarket, Fresh Market, Fresh Thyme, Rainbow Blossom, Paul’s Fruit Markets, Taylorsville Country Market, and Preferred Meats.
